Why the right gaming mouse makes all the difference
The ideal gaming mouse suits your playing style, hand size, and grip. There is no universally "best" mouse, only the best mouse for you.
A poorly chosen mouse not only causes frustration during gameplay but can also lead to long-term hand and arm problems. The German Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) emphasizes that grip, weight, and the shape of a mouse directly influence hand and arm strain. Ergonomics is therefore not just a marketing buzzword, but measurably relevant. That's why we test our gaming mice during development for all factors that can affect your gaming experience and comfort.
Gaming mice in a bundle
Our Nyfter Ergolight 4K Wireless gaming mouse is also available in a bundle with an XXL mousepad and arm sleeve. The Aim God Bundle perfectly complements your gaming products, and you save money compared to buying them individually.

How to find the right gaming mouse (in 60 seconds)
The selection process seems complex, but it can be reduced to a few key criteria. Go through the following points and you'll quickly find your favorite.
Hand size and grip: Palm, Claw, Fingertip
Measure your hand from fingertip to wrist. Hands under 17 cm are considered small, 17–19 cm medium, and over 19 cm large. The palm grip involves resting the entire palm on the mouse: ideal for larger, ergonomic mice like our Nyfter Nyf-25 Wireless. The claw grip uses fingertips and the base of the palm and suits medium-sized mice with a curved back, such as our Nyfter ELT 4K Wireless . The fingertip grip involves only touching the mouse with the fingertips, making small, lightweight models optimal; our Nyfter ELT 4K Wireless is also a good choice here.
The DGUV (German Social Accident Insurance) documents in its BGIA report that a mouse shape that fits the size of the hand significantly reduces the strain on the finger joints and tendons.
Weight and balance
Modern gaming mice weigh between 40g and 120g. The trend is clearly towards ultralight models under 60g. Lighter mice allow for faster flicks but require more precise control. Heavier mice glide more smoothly but tire more quickly during long sessions. The balance, i.e., whether the center of gravity is at the front, middle, or back, also influences the tracking feel. Nyfter gaming mice are all in the mid- to ultra-lightweight segment, making them ideal for shooters and battle royale games, as well as MOBAs.
Sensor and tracking (CPI/DPI, IPS, acceleration)
CPI (Counts Per Inch) and DPI (Dots Per Inch) describe the same thing in the context of mice: how many pixels the sensor registers per inch of mouse movement. Higher CPI means faster cursor movement with the same hand movement. Most pro gamers use 400–1600 CPI. Values above 20,000 CPI are technically available, but rarely practical.
- IPS (Inches Per Second): Maximum speed that the sensor can track flawlessly. Current top sensors achieve over 650 IPS, like the sensor in our flagship e-sports mouse, the Nyfter ELT 4K Wireless.
- Acceleration (G): Maximum acceleration force that the sensor can correctly process. 40–50 G is standard for modern sensors like the PixArt PAW3395 (sensor of our Nyfter ELT 4K Wireless).
- LOD (Lift-Off Distance): The height at which the sensor stops tracking when the mouse is lifted. A low LOD (below 1 mm) prevents unwanted cursor movements when repositioning the mouse.
Polling rate and latency
The polling rate indicates how often the mouse transmits its position to the PC per second. The standard is 1,000 Hz (every 1 ms). Newer models offer 4,000 Hz or even higher. Up to a polling rate of 4,000 Hz, some gamers perceive an advantage, such as noticeably smoother tracking, while others don't. For most gamers, 1,000 Hz is perfectly adequate. Higher polling rates only minimally increase the CPU load.
Cable vs wireless (2.4 GHz/Bluetooth) and battery
Wired: No charging required, slightly lighter, guaranteed latency-free. Ideal for gamers who demand maximum reliability. Nyfter gaming mice utilize a 2.4 GHz wireless connection , resulting in virtually latency-free operation (under 1 ms with modern dongles) and offering freedom without cable resistance.
Bluetooth: Energy-saving for office and mobile use, but too latency-prone for competitive gaming.
The rule of thumb: For competitive gaming, only a wired connection or 2.4 GHz wireless is suitable. Bluetooth is appropriate as a secondary connection for laptops when traveling.
Switches, click feel and durability
Gaming switches determine how clicks feel and how long they last. Mechanical switches (e.g., Omron, Huano, Kailh) offer tactile feedback and are rated for 50 to 80 million clicks. Optical switches use a light beam instead of physical contact, eliminating double-click (debounce) issues and enabling lifespans of over 100 million clicks.
Debounce time describes the pause enforced by the controller after a click to prevent accidental double-clicks. Lower debounce times mean faster click registration but increase the risk of unintended double-clicks with mechanical switches.
Skates, surface and mousepad matching
Mouse feet (skates) made of PTFE, as with all Nyfter gaming mice, ensure smooth gliding. The combination of skate material andmousepad surface significantly determines the gliding feel. Speed pads and glass mousepads offer minimal friction for faster gliding. Control pads provide more resistance for precise micro-aiming. Hybrid pads, like our XXL mousepads, combine both. The mouse surface coating (matte, rubberized, glossy) affects grip, especially with sweaty hands.

What polling rate do I really need?
For the vast majority of gamers, 1000 Hz (1 ms response time) is perfectly adequate. Higher rates like 4000 Hz or 8000 Hz can offer marginally smoother tracking in very fast-paced games, but they increase CPU usage. Unless you're using a high-refresh-rate monitor (240 Hz+), the benefit is barely noticeable.
Wired or wireless: Which is better for gaming?
Modern 2.4 GHz wireless mice achieve latencies of less than 1 ms, making them virtually on par with wired models. The advantage of wireless lies in the absence of cable resistance and greater freedom of movement. Wired mice are cheaper and never need charging. Bluetooth is not recommended for competitive gaming.
Which mousepad is suitable for my gaming mouse?
For fast-paced shooters (FPS), we recommend a speed pad or a glass mousepad with a smooth surface for effortless gliding. However, if you're a low-sensitivity player, a control pad is a good option even for shooters. For precise strategy games and MOBAs, a control pad with more resistance is suitable. A hybrid pad offers a good compromise for all-rounders. Check out ourmousepad collection for detailed recommendations.
